As a triathlete, I've always enjoyed the process of training almost as much as racing.
I love analyzing workouts, planning race goals, optimizing equipment, and figuring out how small improvements can add up over the course of a race. But over the years, I found myself running into the same problem: the tools I needed were scattered everywhere.
One website for pace calculations.
Another calculator for cycling power zones.
A tire pressure calculator bookmarked somewhere in my browser.
A race-day checklist saved in my notes app.
None of these tools were particularly complicated, but finding them when I needed them was always a hassle.
So I started building my own.
The original goal wasn't to create an app for anyone else.
I simply wanted a collection of tools that I personally used during training and race preparation—something fast, simple, and available whenever I needed it.
As I built each tool, I focused on real questions I regularly asked myself:
Instead of searching online every time, I wanted answers in one place.
Over time, that collection became what is now Triathlon Tools.
Every feature in the app comes from something I've personally used in training or racing.
The Pace Calculator helps me quickly estimate workout targets and race splits.
One of my most-used features is the Race Planner. Before a race, I enter my expected swim pace, bike speed, run pace, and transition times. The calculator then estimates how much time I'll spend in each leg and my projected overall finish time. It's a simple way to set realistic expectations and see where small improvements could make the biggest difference.
The Power Zones calculator gives me an instant reference whenever I update my FTP.
The Climbing Calculator helps me understand what kind of effort will be required on a particular climb and whether my race goals are realistic.
And the Race Day Checklist exists because I've forgotten important gear before—and I never want to do that again.
These aren't features that were added because they sounded good on a product roadmap. They were built because I actually needed them.
After using these tools myself for a while, I realized that many other triathletes probably face the same frustrations.
Most of us are balancing training with work, family, and countless other responsibilities. We don't want to spend extra time searching for calculators or rebuilding spreadsheets that someone else has already created.
If a tool saves me time, there's a good chance it can help another athlete too.
That's when I decided to make the app publicly available.
Not because I wanted to build a business around it, but because I thought other triathletes might find it useful.
One of my goals was to keep the app lightweight and easy to use.
No account creation.
No subscriptions.
No complicated setup.
Just practical tools that solve common problems for triathletes.
I also wanted the app to work offline whenever possible, because race venues and training locations don't always have reliable internet access.
The goal has always been utility rather than complexity.
Like most projects built by athletes, Triathlon Tools will continue to evolve based on real-world use.
Whenever I encounter a problem during training and think, "There should be an easier way to do this," it often becomes a candidate for a future tool.
Some of the best ideas come from fellow athletes as well, so feedback and suggestions are always welcome.
Triathlon is a sport that rewards preparation.
The more prepared we are, the more confident we become on race day.
Triathlon Tools started as a personal project to make my own training and race preparation easier. Along the way, I realized that the same tools could help other athletes too.
If you're a triathlete who enjoys planning, optimizing, and preparing as much as training itself, I hope these tools make your journey a little easier.
After all, they were built by a triathlete who wanted exactly the same thing.
